Five pieces for audience

For the last two months I was working on a new, and quite experimental, series of compositions, that premiered at the Festival „Tage der Transformation“, produced by Globart.
Full disclosure: I was very nervous and prepared, that many will find it weird, strange, maybe ridiculous. But I decided to go through with it anyway. I’m glad I did.

The series is called „Five pieces for audience“.
1 | Con moto
2 | Delicatamente
3 | Andante
4 | Vivace
5 | Rubato
They are performed by the audience. Not, as one might think, through producing sounds, but only through the power of perception and imagination of the ones who decide to perform them. They make them sound inside of themselves. It can result in audible sound or movement, but doesn’t have to. I am deeply convinced that creating (sound, music, dance, paintings, literature - basically everything) starts with awareness and presence.
The performance of the pieces was combined with a workshop about improvisation, where we’ve dealt with the principles of improvisation in an artistic context, as a model for practical everyday life. Above all, in order to deal with unknown factors and completely new circumstances.
I am still very moved by how it turned out and I want to share some feedback of people who performed the pieces and participated in my workshop:
A woman (in her sixties) told me, that, while doing the pieces and being in the workshop, she did not notice her tinnitus at all. (A tinnitus that she’s been living with for years!!)
A man (in his fifties) shared, that for the first time since months, he feels a bit better and more optimistic, that we will be able to deal with all the big changes and breakdowns that will come, and that he is very grateful that my music, the pieces and the things I said gave him a sense of relief. (He also told me that he works in the financial sector.)
A woman (in her seventies) gave me a chocolate heart with a big thank you on it and a very long, warm and meaningful handshake, while revealing who she was. (She is the founder of an organisation, that has moved mountains over the past 45 years and that I - of course - know!)
A man (in his twenties) said that he decided to fully dive into it, not caring about what others might think about him. And it was an absolutely joyous and pleasureable experience for him!

And so many more thankyous, hugs, stories, thoughts and affirmations of people, with a huge diversity of backgrounds, professions, age etc.

I’m speechless.
