Verena Zeiner is pianist, improviser and composer.
She plays in various ensembles in the wide field of improvised music, composes for them as well as for chamber music ensembles, orchestra and transdisciplinary projects.
At the heart of her work is the artistic exploration of the possibilities of improvisation. Her approach to music is strongly rooted in movement, bodywork and dance.
She is co-founder of Fraufeld, a platform dedicated to increasing the visibility of Flinta* musicians, is senior lecturer for improvisation at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna as well as lecturer for the Free Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Composition at the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna.
2011 Verena was awarded the scholarship Künstlerstarterstipendium des Bundes, followed by five months of artistic residency and research in New York City.
2020 she was awarded the Recognition Prize of the State of Lower Austria in the category of music.
2023 she won a recognition prize for her chamber music piece (piano trio) The Unfolding on the occasion of the composition competition 2022/23 by INÖK and the festival Allegro Vivo.
Verena Zeiner completed her studies (Music- and Movementeducation/Rhythmics; IGP Tasteninstrumente Popularmusik/Jazzpiano) at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna and at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels.
She studied Real Time Composition with Opher Brayer and is currently expanding her skills in orchestration, instrumentation and composition with composer and bassist Noam Wiesenberg.

Verena Zeiner ist Pianistin, Improvisatorin und Komponistin.
Sie ist in Ensembles aus den Bereichen Jazz und improvisierte Musik tätig, komponiert für eigene Besetzungen, Kammermusik, für Orchester und für transdisziplinäre Projekte.
Das Herzstück ihrer künstlerischen Arbeit ist die Erforschung der Möglichkeiten von Improvisation. Ihr Zugang zu Musik ist stark in Bewegung, Körperarbeit und Tanz verwurzelt.
Verena Zeiner ist Mitgründerin der Plattform Fraufeld, die sich dem Sichtbarmachen von Künstler*innen in der improvisierten Musik widmet, Senior Lecturer für Improvisation an der Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien und Lecturer für das Free Jazz Ensemble sowie Jazz Komposition an der Musik und Kunst Privatuniversität der Stadt Wien.
2011 wurde Verena Zeiner mit einem Künstlerstarterstipendium des Bundes ausgezeichnet, gefolgt von einer sechsmonatigen Residency in New York City.
2020 erhielt sie einen Anerkennungspreis des Landes Niederösterreich in der Sparte Musik.
2023 wurde ihre kammermusikalische Komposition The Unfolding (Klaviertrio) im Rahmen des Kompositionswettbewerbs 2022/23 des INÖK in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Festival Allegro Vivo, mit einem Anerkennungspreis ausgezeichnet.
Verena Zeiner hat ihre Studien (Musik- und Bewegungspädagogik/Rhythmik; IGP Tasteninstrumente Popularmusik/Jazzklavier) an der Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien und am Königlichen Konservatorium in Brüssel absolviert.
Sie studierte Real Time Composition mit Opher Brayer und vertieft derzeit ihre Fertigkeiten in Instrumentation, Orchestrierung und Komposition beim Komponisten und Bassisten Noam Wiesenberg.
