Recorded, mixed & mastered by Ziv Ravitz at PAZ Studios.
Produced by Ziv Ravitz & Verena Zeiner.
Composed during Verena’s three months as
Artist in Residence Munich in autumn of 2025 at Lake Starnberg, and recorded right at the beginning of this year in the inspiring landscapes of the south of France, it will be released in November 2026 by PKmusik—the label of Greek bassist Petros Klampanis.
With their new duo album Sheer, pianist Verena Zeiner and drummer Ziv Ravitz tell stories about the courage to lay down masks, about the strength of connection, the power of imagination, the beauty of letting things break, the commitment to pushing boundaries, the boldness in vulnerability and about faith in the process.
On this album, Verena Zeiner and Ziv Ravitz deepen their duo journey, expanding their sound palette of piano and drums with electronics. Composition and improvisation blend seamlessly, unlocking a vast spectrum of musical language and expression.
Ziv about the duo:
„I see our duo as an exploration of human connection. Duet is the most intimate format of dealing with human relation. We cannot hide who we are, we have to be present, we have to be connected or else it will not work. In any other format you can hide behind action that is not yours.“
The journey of the new album Sheer began with Verena being selected for the program Artist in Residence Munich.
Verena about the creation process:
„There is a lot of potential for distraction out there, a lot of noise all the time, many loud voices constantly and brutally demanding attention. There is so much ignorance in the structures we live in—structures that systematically erode trust, connection and empathy. At times, I feel that it’s nearly impossible to reach the core, where the capacity to be truly touched still exists.
For me, the residency was an invitation to recover from the exhaustion that comes from constantly resisting this and to loosen the defenses I’ve built for survival. To shed layers, delve deep, ask essential questions about my own existence and responsibility, and to break free from narrow ideas of how to move through the world. The place allows it, because it’s situated in soothing nature, close to water. It offers enough support and security to hold on to in case things become uncomfortable. And they do. It’s an inevitable - and necessary - part of moving forward. It was a privilege and gift to have the time and space for this.
The album Sheer contains the music that emerged from this process. Because even within the discomfort, there they are: clarity, fresh paths, encouragement, beauty, the magic of life. It is a conscious choice to perceive, embrace, nurture, and celebrate them. From the very beginning, it was clear that I was writing this music for my duo with Ziv Ravitz. We have been playing together since 2021, and our duo has become one of my most inspiring collaborations. Ziv is an exceptionally creative human and musician. He has a vast sonic range and a very orchestral approach to drumming. In this duo, both instruments can take on the roles of melody, harmony, bass, or rhythm instruments, which provides great scope for compositional work. On our new album Sheer he is not only musician, but he also recorded, mixed and mastered the music in his beautiful studio in southern France.
I’m very happy and honored that the music will be released with PKmusik and that it will become part of this diverse musical family.“
